Yoga Gangsters Certification

Helping at risk youth

Starting October, 2016

Yoga Gangsters certification is for anyone who would like to provide outreach yoga programming at schools, shelters, rehab facilities, or through other non-profit organizations. Working with these populations requires specific skills and awareness so that you can connect with the youth through yoga while providing messages of empowerment, teaching self respect, self awareness and self control.

When people understand the benefits of yoga and the profound impact it has on themselves, they want to teach others. Some people in particular want to take yoga to populations that need it the most but typically don't have access. Imagine prisons, homeless shelters, juvenile detention centers, women's shelters, and more. To teach to these populations, it's less about perfecting that Warrior I and more about connecting with people, teaching them to connect with their own body and breath, and finding peace and calmness where they are surrounding by chaos. You don't need a 200 hour yoga teacher training to teach to at risk populations, you need a big heart and the right tools to connect with people.

We are blessed to have Yoga Gangsters come back for a second training here in Tampa. Yoga Gangsters will be coming to Tampa for their Level 1 training. This 15-hour certification workshop is taught by Jodi Weiner, Executive Director of Yoga Gangsters Inc. (501c3)

This course will cover: DIVERSITY

Intro to trauma and how it is held in the body
4 types of students
Showing up and speaking authentically
Appropriate touch
Classroom sequencing, lesson plans & practice teaching

Yoga Gangsters offers free programming throughout the country working within the juvenile justice system, with Title 1 schools, foster youth centers, homeless shelters, drug rehabs, residential facilities, hospitals and other non-profit organizations. As of September 2013, our programming has reached 8,500 kids, nationally. We have more than 850 trained volunteer teachers.

We are calling in emerging leaders in existing and new markets who share our desire to serve youth in crisis through yoga. Certified yoga teachers are welcome as well as yoga lovers who want to serve (yoga teachers certification is NOT required to join our team for volunteer programming).

“My experience spreading the message of Yoga as a Yoga Gangster is an experience that fills my heart and makes my life so much more purposeful. After teaching a class to 2nd graders, one of the children stayed after everyone had left, this young boy, I was told, never said much, teachers tried very hard to reach out to him. Well, he stood in the room as I was cleaning up and knowing about him, I did not say anything until he finally communicated with me….He tapped me on the arm and with his inha

"The weekend-long training offered by Yoga Gangsters is an amazing opportunity to dive into the depths of understanding how we energetically connect to others. Emotions during the weekend fully arise in order to truly understand one’s own stuff that we carry around so that we can leave it aside when stepping into the rooms to help others. The training is less about how to teach yoga postures to kids and more about how to relate."

" I found a new and profound love, reverence and passion toward the ancient practice of yoga and teaching the same. Most importantly my heart and soul opened with a deep appreciation towards humanity allowing myself to connect within by connecting with others taking my practice and teaching to the next level. This is truly a blessing of divine wisdom and new age teacher training technique. I’m honored"
